Breeding Colony Supervisor Central Florida Region

We are currently looking for an Breeding Colony Supervisor for a contract site in the Central Florida Region.
Responsibilities:
Understand anatomical and physiological differences of laboratory animals and is able to recognize changes or abnormalities in eating habits, feces, urine and behavior.
Maintains knowledge of and compliance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, USDA guidelines as well as all other institutional, local, state and federal regulations concerning the use of animals in research.
Identify newly weaned animals and perform a tail biopsy for genotyping.
Maintains calendars and detailed breeding records indicating the birth date, animal age, and fertility data of each animal. Responsible for computerized or manual breeding records to maintain pedigree information on each animal. Disposes of animals incapable of successfully breeding according to established protocols.
Coordinate transfer of animals to Researchers for quick delivery. Creates and assigns breeding pair with cage cards.
Prepares donor and recipient females by coordinating matings with appropriate normal and vasectomized males.
Identifies female normal mice with plugs.
Provides animal identification, i.e. ear notching, tail tattoo or transponder, as indicated.
Performs euthanasia using the correct technique for each species. Ensures that animal carcasses are disposed of properly and maintains appropriate records.
Monitors availability of space and caging and communicates that information to the Project Manager.
Monitors environmental parameters and maintains written records, including room temperatures, light cycles and sanitation. Reports problems to the building maintenance department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Genetics or related field.
Experience: A minimum of three years experience in a transgenic laboratory animal facility.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or above OR successful achievement of LAT certification within one (1) year required.

Updated Information on SEAALAS Golf Tourney- 05/11/2009

Good afternoon SEAALAS ~
Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts with the International BioExpo and the limited planning time, the 1st Annual SEAALAS Golf Tournament will have to wait until a next year.

It's an Update!- 04/24/2009

Finally an update!
Things have been quite chaotic here at UGA and it has taken awhile to get to this update out. Several things are still in the works and are being tested as we speak. More details will follow in the coming weeks
I'll be working with Paula Cannela to create a nice vendor reference that should come in handy when you're looking for new equipment or PPE etc...
Also, in other SEAALAS news, preparations are underway for the 2010 Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. Stay tuned for additional details
